Back home

Dear Keira:

Thanks for spending time with me in Panama with your cousins and your family.  We had a lot of adventures and a lot of fun!

Love, Flat Stanley

A day trip to Portobelo

On Thursday, we drove an hour and a half over to the Atlantic Ocean to a town called Portobelo.  Here we visited an old Spanish fort that was used to protect the town against pirates a long time ago!

Can you spot me?

Here I am again!

Keira and I inside a lookout.

This is one of the old cannons that remains.

We took a long hike up the hill to another part of the fort.  This was very tiring! I went alone as it was too hot for Keira.

A Visit to Punta Culebra

When we went back to Panama City, we visited Punta Culebra Nature Center where Keira's uncle Mark works.  He is a marine biologist at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute in Panama.

At the touch tanks we saw sea stars, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, baby sting rays, fish, a sea turtle, and many other marine animals.

I was brave enough to touch a sea cucumber!

Here we are with Alex and Ryan again :).

We took a break to look at the view. This is Keira's Aunt Andrea.

In another area of the nature center, we saw marine animals in tanks.

A trip to the beach

Dear Keira:

It was great spending Spring Break with you in Panama.  I can't believe we actually arrived on the same day. The mail must be really slow getting to Panama.

We had such great adventures with you, your family and your cousins. On the first weekend we drove an hour away to a beach called El Palmar.  We stayed in a nice house with a pool which was good because the waves were huge and we spent a lot of time in the pool.

Here I am with Keira, Ryan (Keira's brother) and Alex (Keira's cousin).

I was also able to go swimming!

This house was an old surf camp, so they have a sign that says Coconuts Surf Camp.
